Pullman Car Accident & Death: 13-Year-Old Pullman Boy Tragically Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Icy State Route 195

A tragic multi-vehicle collision on an icy stretch of State Route 195 claimed the life of a 13-year-old Pullman boy Saturday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP). The crash, involving five vehicles, occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m., about three miles north of Rosalia.

The incident began when a southbound semi-truck lost control on the icy roadway and jackknifed near Babb Road. The truck’s trailer swung into the northbound lanes, blocking traffic and setting off a devastating chain reaction.

Among the vehicles involved was a northbound Mazda CX-50, driven by 44-year-old Stephen Bischoff of Pullman. The Mazda collided with the semi-trailer in the left northbound lane before being pushed into the right lane, where it struck two additional vehicles. The semi-trailer also hit a parked truck, pushing it into a nearby rock wall.

Tragically, the 13-year-old passenger in the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Bischoff sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. While the conditions of other drivers and passengers remain undisclosed, WSP has confirmed there were no additional fatalities.

Investigators believe icy road conditions were a primary factor in the crash. WSP is urging drivers to remain vigilant as freezing temperatures continue to create hazardous driving conditions across the region. “This tragedy highlights the critical importance of slowing down and maintaining extra distance between vehicles on icy roads,” a WSP spokesperson emphasized.

The identity of the young victim has not been released, as authorities are notifying extended family.

The Pullman community has expressed its profound grief over the loss, with condolences and support pouring in for the family. State Route 195 was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the scene. Traffic has since resumed, but officials caution that similar conditions could persist as winter weather continues.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash to determine whether any additional factors contributed to the collision.
